Member Appreciation Blocks (MAB) – What are they?
I wanted to do something special for our Facebook Group, so to celebrate the growth of this group for every 100 members I am going to post a new block. Yes I am way behind!
I am providing a PDF of each block that shows:
Full color block
Block Assembly Diagram
Piece Cutting Information
Units Used in this Block Diagram
I am not providing the quilt assembly information or material requirements for the MAB blocks. These are 12″ blocks so there are many setting options you could choose from as well as choosing the size of quilt you would like to make. You can use them in sampler quilts, two block quilts, and of course in a quilt using just one block.

The pattern cost for the complete PDF download of Winter Carnival is only $2.00, this special Quilt Along price will last for 4weeks, after that the price is $7.00 for the pattern.
There will not be any free PDF downloads for this quilt along.
The pattern includes information for 6 sizes!
Having the complete pattern available at the start of the quilt along for everyone allows you access to all the information in the pattern. You will be able to work ahead if you wish. You will be able to alternate working on the different parts of the quilt if you like variety in your piecing time. And you will not have to worry about missing any of the downloads.
Because we have had many beginner quilters joining our group I wanted to offer a simpler pattern to work on this time.
I made my Winter Carnival Quilt in what I consider the “Lodge Look”, utilizing prints and plaids. I have also played around with other color/fabric options and will be showing those here over the next couple of days.
You can start selecting your fabrics and stitching now! Please post pictures of your progress on our Facebook Group, I know everyone loves to see the different fabrics choices.
The setting for the Winter Carnival quilt would also make a great setting for the Member Appreciation Blocks!
Here is an alternate colorway option for the Winter Carnival quilt.
Here is another colorway option for the Winter Carnival quilt.
Here is another colorway option for the Winter Carnival quilt. I am using the same colors as the last image but now replacing white in the sashing with teal.
Here are two more colorway options for the Winter Carnival quilt. These show two ways in which you could make the quilt with black fabric.
Here are two more colorway options for the Winter Carnival quilt. These show off Christmas fabrics, one with green in the sashing and the other with red in the sashing. The checkerboard blocks show how you can use controlled colors on the diagonals.
Facebook Group – newly created for all to share photos of their quilting projects!
Catching up with the Member Appreciation Blocks (MAB) here. My goal with this project is to post one block for every 100 members that have joined the Facebook Group. Look for the PDF downloads in the files section of this Facebook group. I am also sharing this information here with you for those who stay off of Facebook. A printer friendly download is now available, see link below block image.
I hope these blocks will be used in sampler quilts or see entire quilts made out of one or two of these blocks.
Since I have no way of knowing what size of quilt you might want to use these for I am not providing any material requirements. When in doubt, go scrappy and you never have to worry about running out of fabric!
How long will this project go on? I have thousands (I’m not kidding) of blocks already in my computer files and new ideas keep coming. So it’s up to you dear quilters and Facebook Group members to encourage others to join and to see how far this can go. Personally I like big goals and you can encourage me by posting pictures of your blocks and progress on your quilts, we all like eye candy!
I am not providing the quilt assembly information or material requirements for the MAB blocks. These are 12″ blocks so there are many setting options you could choose from as well as choosing the size of quilt you would like to make. If you need an easy fun way to set the blocks together I do recommend my Block of the Month, Color Me Happy. In Color Me Happy I also provide material requirements for quilts in 3 different sizes.
Another great setting for the MAB blocks is the Party of Six quilt. Available as a PDF download or in print.
If you would like very detailed step by step instructions on making the MAB blocks, you can find them for the first 6 MAB blocks in the Party of Six pattern. Available as a PDF download or in print. Once you make those six blocks you will have the skills to construct the others. Link is in the comments section below.
If you need detailed instructions on how to sew the units in each block, my Nickel Quilts & Borders book contains instructions for most of the units I will be using.
Have fun with these blocks and let your creativity soar!

I love playing with the Member Appreciation Blocks (MAB) and using them in two block quilt designs! I’ve already posted these on the Facebook Group but I am also posting this here for those that stay off of Facebook.
MAB #3 is in the upper left
Design elements I like about this quilt:
I love the way MAB #3 flows into MAB #5 and makes #3 look like a larger block.
I really like the sparkle this quilt has created by the flying geese units and the small half-square-triangles.
Information on making the MAB blocks can be found in previous blog posts.
If you would like very detailed step by step instructions on making the MAB blocks, you can find them for the first 6 MAB blocks in the Party of Six pattern. Available as a PDF download or in print. Once you make those six blocks you will have the skills to construct the others.
If you like two block quilts you will enjoy the ideas in the Silver Lining Quilt Two Block Design Guide, which contains 32 fantastic alternate blocks. Link is below the book image.
