Silver Lining with Alternate Block #21

Today’s quilt is, Silver Lining with Alternate Block #21.

Playing with the alternate block from the previous quilt, I changed the light and dark value of the flying geese units and the cornerstones, while leaving the center open for machine or hand quilting.  Enjoy!

I’m posting these quilts mostly for inspiration and eye candy.  However I have created a guide that contains the quilt images and cutting and assembly information for each of the blocks. This guide is available now on my website as a PDF download.   http://www.patspeth.com/

A big thank to everyone who has made a purchase from my website, it means a lot to me now since sales from my website are my only source of income for the foreseeable future.  A virtual hug to all of you!

Stay safe, stay home, and quilt!

And now for today’s quilt, Silver Lining with Alternate Block #20.

Starting with the block from the previous quilt, and knowing I am machine quilting challenged, I decided to fill up the open space in the center with the King’s Crown traditional block. Enjoy!

Silver Lining with Alternate Block #19

The quilt for today is,  Silver Lining with Alternate Block #19.

The alternate block in this quilt again gives us a great place to show off quilting skills. I’ve also included an image of what this quilt would look like in an on point set.  Enjoy!

Silver Lining with Alternate Block #18

For your viewing pleasure is the next quilt,  Silver Lining with Alternate Block #18.

This alternate block provides a nice large area for machine quilters to show off their skills. As for myself, I am machine quilting challenged so I normally design quilts that do not have large open spaces. However when I come up with a design like this I am really tempted to improve those skills and give this a try.

Silver Lining with Alternate Block #17

Presenting  the next quilt in this series,  Silver Lining with Alternate Block #17.

I took the block from the previous quilt, changed the color in the half-square-triangle units, and rotated them.  This variation gives us a diagonal design element, the alternate block flows into the main block, and the three patches in the corners of the main block are more prominent.  Another one I would love to make!

Silver Lining with Alternate Block #16

Today I’m sharing with you, Silver Lining with Alternate Block #16. I like how this alternate block keeps my eye moving across the quilt, and this alternate block contains my favorite unit!

I’m making good progress!

I’m making good progress on the guide for this project. The name of the guide I think will be, “Silver Lining Quilt; Two Block Design Project”. It has grown to the size of a book and will contain 32 pages for the quilts, 16 pages for block diagrams, and 10 or more pages of detailed unit construction directions.

Images are previews of what the Block Diagram and Unit Construction pages will look like.

There will be 32 quilts in total, tomorrow’s quilt is #16 so we have a way to go yet for all the quilts.

So far I have logged 60 computer hours into this guide, when it is ready it will be on my website as a PDF download for a nominal fee.   http://www.patspeth.com/

Silver Lining with Alternate Block #15

The next quilt is, Silver Lining with Alternate Block #15.

For this block I took the previous block and  swapped out the light background squares  with the same color found in the center of the main Silver Lining block. By doing this the design focus changes from the chain which disappeared, to the alternate block and how it flows into the main block . Enjoy!

Silver Lining with Alternate Block #14

The next quilt is, Silver Lining with Alternate Block #14.

Continuing to design with the chain block, I used the alternate block from the previous quilt and switched the placement of the dark and light in the center square in a square unit. I think it’s great to have so many options!

Silver Lining with Alternate Block #13

Presenting  the next quilt in this series,  Silver Lining with Alternate Block #13.

For today’s block I took the chain block from #6 and asked myself, “What would happen if I swapped the center of the block out with a square in a square unit?”. This is the result, I think it’s a keeper.
