Allen Quilters Guild

‘Picket Fence Units’ was the workshop of choice for the Allen Quilters Guild in Allen, Texas. Five different quilts could be worked on, and of course they all use 5″ squares. Lots of room to spread during this workshop since we were in a gymnasium. Johanna the program and workshop chairperson even fixed us a homemade lunch – delish!

Pictures from the workshop:

Millennium Star blocks

And look at this happy accident – the switching around of fabrics in the corner units was not intentional but doesn’t it look great!?

Woodland Clover

Chesapeake and Dawn to Dusk blocks

Pinwheels on ParadeTwo of the gals in class were using vintage fabrics from their mother’s stashes – what a great use for those calicos from the ’70s or ’80s.

I was told this guild of only 45 members made over 240 charity quilts last year; what a great accomplishment!

I hope this Nickel Quilt workshop will give you more fun ways of making many more charity quilts in the future.  Charity quilt tip: all the techniques for working with 5″ squares can be used on larger squares. The units will just be larger, as well as the blocks.  Try the Nickel Quilt techniques on 6″, 7″, and even 8″ squares.

Next guild on this trip – Granbury, Texas
